LAURO GOLF (952 412 767) Our golfing friend likes this course, especially after playing Alhaurin el Grande, so please don’t dismiss it out of hand, he is quite a good player. Try the Albatross restaurant across the road, the chef used to work for the golf course. Par 72 Length depends.

ALHAURIN GOLF (952 595 970) At the foot of the Mijas mountains, this is a difficult one and you need a buggy. My friend was exhausted walking it—very hilly ! The course was designed by Seve Ballesteros. We had a meal at the Club house, very pleasant and not overly expensive. I can recommend it. 18 hole Par 72 Length 6,221 m

PARADOR MALAGA (952 376 677) founded by the Spanish Royal family in 1925, this is the oldest course designed by Tom Simpson. Part parkland, part links, part state owned and part parakeet owned !

GUADALHORCE (952 179 378) in Cartama, designed by Kosti Kuronen, splits into two, with the first being English parkland and the second more difficult and elevated — a friendly atmosphere with lots of other amenities for the non player. 18 hole Par 72 Length 6194 m.

TORREQUEBRADA GOLF (952 442 742) at Benalmadena near the Torrequebrada hotel. A bit tricky this one., designed by Jose Ganzedo 18 holes Par 72 Length 5,852 m.

LA CALA MIJAS (952 476 843) 3 courses at Mijas Costa — all levels, designed by Cabell Robinson MIJAS GOLF CLUB 2 courses at the village, supposedly one of the best championship layouts on the Costa. Robert Trent Jones Holes 18,18, Par 72, 71 Length 5,896 m and 6,348 m.

MIRAFLORES GOLF (952 833 647) at Mijas Costa, designed by Folco Nardi and close to the Mijas mountains—head towards Alhaurin el Grande to get there. Holes 18 Par 71 Length 5,270 m.

SANTANA GOLF (951 062 560) again at Mijas Costa, a demanding course set in 55 hectares designed by Cabell Robinson Holes 18 Par 72 Length 6,308m.

LA NORIA (951 276 439) in La Cala de Mijas is a flat course just back from the beach, designed by Francisco Navarro Collado. Holes 9 Par 33 Length 2,138 m.

LA SIESTA GOLF (952 836 370) in Mijas Costa, just behind Calahonda, designed by Enrique Canales Busquets with varying lengths to the holes. Holes 9 Par 27 and Length of 886 m.

MARBELLA GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB (952 830 500) take the N 340 Km 188, this is a challenging championship course allowing highest level play, designed by Robert Trent Jones. Holes 18 Par 72 Length 6,000 m.

RIO REAL GOLF CLUB (952 779 509) 3 kms. from Marbella is thought to be one of the most spectacular in the area, but suitable for all levels, designed by Javier Arana. Holes 18 Par 72 Length 6,057 m.

LOS ARQUEROS (952 784 600) on the San Pedro Road, Carretera de Ronda. This is a well known course that is quite challenging—good for all levels. 18 holes par 72 Length 5,874 m.

GREENLIFE GOLF (952 839 142) in the Elvira hills, behind Marbella, a high quality course which is illuminated at night to allow golf to continue into the wee hours. Holes 9 Par 27 Length 1,171 m.

LOS FLAMINGOS (952 889 150) at Benahavis, further away now, about 50 mins drive, a gentle course with lovely views and you can even see Africa on a clear day. Holes 18 Par 72 Length 5,907 m. Antonio Garcia Garrido.

MARBELLA CLUB GOLF RESORT (952 113 239) at Benahavis is a very technical course which needs precision designed by Dave Thomas. Holes 18 Par 73 Length 6,206 m.

EL PARAISO GOLF CLUB (952 883 835) in Estepona, probably one of the best championship courses on the Costas, designed by Gary Player, suitable all levels, beautiful views. Holes 18 Par 72 Length 6,116 m.

VALDERRRAMA GOLF CLUB (956 791 200) at Sotogrande, rated as numero uno in Continental Europe, hosted the Ryder Cup and Volvo Masters in 1988, designed by Robert Trent Jones. Holes 18 Par 72 Length 5,746 m.
